Everyone should read what I am calling A Christian's Guide to Chanukah by

I wish I could show this to one of my students. He knows I'm Jewish, and asked me a question about Hannukah. I asked him if he knew what the holiday actually was about.

His reply?

"Christ."

*facepalm*

It's all about the Jesus! *eyeroll*

I was so flabberghasted, because he was so serious about it that i couldn't formulate an actual coherent reply other than a general, "it's a JEWISH holiday. no involvement by christ."

Hey, I once told someone I was Jewish and her response was, "Well, as long as you still believe in Jesus, I guess that's alright."

That stuff happens.

And it's REALLY annoying when it does.

Yeah. I have to admit my response was a little ... bad.

"No, there's a name for Jews who believe in Jesus. They're called Christians."

Jeez! I used to *know* people like that.

Interesting. We don't got a big Hanukkah thing going in the UK, except in areas that still have largish Jewish communities (parts of London and Manchester particularly), and I must confess I couldn't really have said what Hanukkah was about before I read this.
