Headed to the Big Apple

I needed to get out of the house for the day, so I cashed in some Amtrak and American Express points and am now on my way to NYC to see Gypsy and Rent.

I suppose I could have just gone museum hopping, but I wanted to see Rent one last time before it closed and I had plenty of points. A bit impulsive, I know.

ETA: Hmmm, I have two hours between getting off the train and the start of the show. Any suggestions for ways to kill time in the Penn Station/Times Square area?

Trains are wonderful. I love passing through cities and towns, just seeing them and not having to get involved in the minutia of life there.

ETA: Clearly this post was a jinx. Train is broken down. *unhappy*

Okay, our train had to be "rescued" and I'm now about one and half hours off schedule. Which isn't the end of the world, it just means that I have to decide whether getting lunch is worth the expense of the cab it would take to get me to the show on time.

For those of you are considering it, I'd recommend against the train-rescue experience. It was getting really hard to breathe on that train and several people had asthma attacks. Also, they ended up cutting off the boarding onto the new train right as I got there. Fortunately, the conductor was nice and let me slip on to the new train.

Hopefully, there won't be any more posts from me until tonight! Have a good day, everyone.

Broadway Report

The train got to Penn Station at 2:25pm and I managed to grab some food and still make it to the theater on time on foot. Barely. And somewhat out of breath.

Gypsy was nice. I'm 90% sure that Patti Lupone was having vocal issues, because she was really undersinging some of her songs. She still did a good job, it just wasn't what I was expecting from her.

Rent. God, I love that show. I'm so glad I went back to see it again. Their Maureen, Joanne, and Roger were all excellent. Much better than last year. Mark and Mimi weren't, which was a shame. And of course I cried. *sniffles*
