Vid Recs - Firefly, BSG, and Angel
Feb. 1st, 2007 11:49 pmI have been fairly overwhelmed with the number of vids that have become available recently, as the technology to make vids has become more accessible to more people. And let's be honest, most of them aren't very good and it's really annoying to spend time downloading a vid that you then immediately delete. It's made it harder and harder to find the good stuff, so I thought I'd do a rec post for the ohmygodthesearesogood!vids that I've been able to find.
These vids have a lot in common: great song choices, incredible editing, excellent clip choices, beautiful source quality, perfect pacing, and wonderful story telling.
Firefly/Serenity
There are quite a lot of wonderful vids in this fandom. I'm sure that part of the reason for this is just that some truly talented vidders love the fandom, but I think that the way that the show and movie were filmed have a lot to do with it as well. There is an almost lyrical quality to the way that River was filmed and it lends itself beautifully to vidding.

New Frontier is a visually stunning character study of both Mal and River in Serenity. I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about this vid. It's absolutely incredible.

Post Blue is completely gorgeous, even if it is Crazy Space Incest. It's dirtybadwrong, but so pretty and moving that you just don't care.obsessive24 uses some fairly unusual techniques and uses them very well.
Best Friends Song by Holly Gilmore
This is utterly brilliant and completely hysterical. Watch it and laugh your ass off. And then take a second to be awed by the editing skill this vid required.
Battlestar Gallactica
I haven't found many BSG vids that I've fallen in love with, but there is one that is just brilliant ...
Jerusalem by Seah and Margie
This song choice is simply inspired. The lyrics do a wonderful job of mirroring the feel of the series, the clip choices are perfect, and the vid really immerses you into the BSG!verse.
