Today I was in a meeting where people got into a conversation about the price of their jeans. The highest cost in the room was $400 and the lowest was $150. I declined to mention that mine cost $4.99.

ETA: In case anyone wants to see what $400 jeans look like, here you go.

I'll admit that I pay about $20 a pair, which (for me) is a lot to spend on a single article of clothing, but I've found a good mail order company that makes jeans that actually fit me (I have a weird build for a chick, but don't quite fit men's jeans properly, either), so I'm willing to shell out for them new. But anything more than that? Yeesh.

I've spent as much as $49 for a pair of jeans (I also have fit issues) but I always thought that was an incredible extravagance. But to pay three digits for jeans? I ... no.

Holy SHIT. Not that shit can be holy, but there has to be something unholy about a pair of jeans that costs $400. Or even $100, really. I can't imagine. $400 is more than my whole wardrobe budget for a year, LOL!

Yeah. I don't know what would make jeans worth $400. I just ... no.

Seriously. This is just beyond my understanding. I wonder if those things ever end up in my thrift store, where I pay $4.50 for them... 99% markdown!

Heh, maybe! I like my $4.99 Old Navy jeans, personally.

Yeah, a pair of jeans that cost over a hundred dollars probably wouldn't be the kind I would like, anyway. Actually I tend to wear overalls or cargo pants rather than jeans. (Though I can't help wondering, like you said, what is it that makes them cost so much? If you took off the label, would anyone be able to tell them from a $30 pair of jeans?)

I don't know! I went online and tried to look at $400 jeans, but I honestly couldn't tell what made them special. I edited the post with a link, so take a look and let me know if you figure it out.

Oh! Well, now that I can see them, it's obvious that along with the denim thread, there are special fibers woven in that come from moon rocks. Also, they can make you invisible.

Whew! Glad that mystery's solved.

*giggles* Mystery solved! Thank god I showed them to you!

I feel ripped off every time I pay $35-$40, but the special cut from Lane Bryant or Fashion Bug Plus, they fit. I'd go naked before I paid $100, let alone $400 for a pair of jeans.

Yeah, I buy the Lane Bryant Red jeans if I can swing it because of the fit issues. But ... yeah, actually that might be the only way I'd pay $400 for jeans, was if the alternative was going naked.

*looks at jeans in catolouge* *looks at my own jeans* I think the only difference is that they're dyed a darker color blue and have a different name on the label. Maybe the buttons are a slightly different shape.

I think they only cost that much because people want to say they paid $400 dollars for a pair of jeans.

Yeah, I think you're right about that. People are stupid.

Wuh? I think mine were $30.

I doan geddit. I mean, jeans are working class casual wear. If I'm gunna spend $400 on clothes, it better be the sexiest dress ever.

But apparently they are a fashion statement for the upper class? People. They are odd.

I think they're for people who have still money left over from buying cocaine.

I would think you would just buy more cocaine. You can never have enough cocaine, right?

You have got to be kidding me. I think the most I've ever spent on a pair of jeans is $50 and that was because they actually fit. Gah!

I pay around £20 for jeans that actually fit my big bum! And that's excessive to me.
I looked at the RL $400 jeans..... (aside from the fact that the model is stick thin and wearing high heels - what is that about??) they don't look any better or different from high street brands.
If anyone feels they have to spend ridulous amounts on a label, they should try OXFAM, or similar - $4.99 for decent jeans, and donate the remaining $395.01 to the charity!
