Five Things about Utopia
1) This exchange broke me:
"It's not easy. Even just ... just looking at you, Jack. 'Cause you're wrong."
"Thanks."
Guh. Such good angst.
2) Everyone has to write the list 'o Jack-deaths. Now.
3) On the podcast the costume supervisor explained that she went out and got John 15 different white t-shirts to choose from, since he'd never been happy with the ones she gave him on Torchwood. I find this utterly adorable. *shakes head in horror at fangirl self*
4) A few people have said that Jack's flirting seemed forced, and I'd have to agree. But I don't think it's because he's secretly pining for Ianto. As much as I love Ianto, Jack's just found the Doctor and I don't think he's thinking of anything or anyone else. I think it's Jack trying to be the same man that the Doctor knew, and finding that it doesn't quite work any more.
5) In the Confidential, RTD talks about why Jack and the Doctor had to talk during a crisis, with radiation and danger and a door between them. He said it was written very intentionally, because That's What Men Do, that's when they would talk about things when they're in the middle of all that. Now, I think there's some truth in that but I also think that Russell might also have written it that way so that if John overacted it, it would be disguised by Jack's physical exertion.*
* Disclaimer: I love John, I do. (See #3 if you want proof.) But his acting skills just aren't up to handling subtle and nuanced and layered. Not consistently, anyway.
